Heart Doctor in Singapore Reveals Guide to Tip Top Heart Health

A Singapore heart doctor has unveiled his ultimate guide to heart screening to help his patients stay in tip top health.

Dr Michael MacDonald has pulled together an in-depth guide to the importance of heart screening as part of someone’s regular health checks.

Dr MacDonald said: “Heart screening helps us to pick up any early signs of problems our patients might be suffering. Heart attack and stroke are the biggest killers on the planet, with 18 million deaths every year, but these deaths can be prevented.

“Screening helps us to identify any risk factors, like high blood pressure or high cholesterol and it will allow us to see if there are any signs of heart disease.

“Our patients will undergo blood tests, stress tests and different imaging tests of the heart and the arteries to give us a full picture of what is going on and what we need to do to help them stay in good health.

“Anyone who is over 40 should be having their blood pressure checked at least once a year. Then you should be getting your cholesterol checked regularly if you are over 40, have had a heart attack or stroke, if there is a family history of diabetes or if anyone in the family has high cholesterol.

“We would also ask anyone who is over 30 who is a smoker, has high blood pressure or has family who suffered with heart disease before the age of 65, or anyone who is over 18 and obese to get screened.

“Taking time out to get a heart screening appointment could literally save lives, so if anyone fits the criteria we have detailed, we would urge them to get in touch as soon as possible,” he added.

Dr Michael MacDonald is an expert in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. He started his career training in Glasgow in Scotland, which has one of the highest rates of heart disease in the world. It was there that he found his passion for cardiology and helping people to fight and beat heart disease.

Dr MacDonald provides different packages which offer more detailed screening options. But he recommends the very basic package that everyone should invest in includes – an initial consultation, an examination, cholesterol check, blood pressure check, diabetes check and an obesity screen.

“Yes, we also have options for MRIs and CT scans, but we should be able to get a really clear picture of the state of someone’s heart health from the basic package.

“Once we have collected all the data from the screening, we will assess your risk factors and make recommendations of what you can do to lower your risk,” he added.
