Company Structures Business to Overcome Client Concerns and Optimize Team Performance

Blue Noda, a digital-centric marketing company based in Cleveland, with leadership in New York City and industry experts across the U.S., introduces a totally customizable, client-first agency approach that’s challenging the traditional ways of working with clients.

According to Gartner’s annual 2022 CMO Spend and Strategy Survey, the average marketing spend by companies increased from 6.4% in 2021 to 9.5% of company revenue across almost all industries, with digital advertising spending projected to reach $876 billion by 2026. Blue Noda, which specializes in SEO, lead generation, content marketing, email marketing, and data analytics, is responding with a next-generation operating model and an organizational structure that unifies a best-in-class team who can work across multiple disciplines.

“The old ways of working just aren’t working,” says Andrea Salemi, Blue Noda’s Chief Growth Officer.

“We’re paying attention to what’s happening in the marketplace and expanding our talent network and operational processes with care, beyond a standard email and a monthly call. Some businesses need more of a human approach to weed through this complex world to better understand what we do every day,”

With this significant, estimated growth worldwide in mind, Blue Noda Chief Growth Officer, Andrea Salemi, says she wanted to build a totally customizable, client-first agency approach when she launched the company in 2020 during the height of the pandemic.

“Blue Noda may look like every agency within its services but the difference is the way we connect with our clients. Each business has a different marketing ecosystem; they do not need to be sold the standard package. Sometimes we even create workflows for our clients to adopt internally and we move on to a different channel to help them see growth within marketing operations” says Salemi.

Salemi’s intentional process considers significant trends in digital advertising spend and a client’s need for experts who can help them navigate this often-complicated niche marketing territory.

“The traditional agency model is dead; with its inflated overhead, poor internal procedures, and high client churn-and-burn rates, clients and businesses of all sizes need something more. Part of the change forward is also not being afraid to say ‘no’ when we are not the best fit for their maturity stage. We’re 100% transparent,” says Salemi.

“If we don’t think we can have a true impact, then we’ll point a client in another direction. We can do this because we are fully-remote; a strategic design before the pandemic that I have mapped out, and because we understand that impact is the only metric that equals success for this company, not a fancy office that the client ends up paying for.

The secret to offering clients true value is relying on subject and functional matter experts in niche industries and not the typical agency model of assigning inexperienced or entry-level employees to accounts because they cost less.

No one on our team is a novice and I’m not trying to be a Jill of all trades,” she says.

The modular pod approach allows the agency to move quickly and assemble the best people for each client and project. The flexibility keeps the company nimble and affordable, giving clients the attention they deserve against a clearly defined set of expectations outlined in the beginning of each project.

Salemi and newly appointed President, B. Randall Willis, hire talent who love what they do and understand technology. “These are people who can actually get the work done and know how to use the medium,” said Willis. “If they don’t, then it’s just hype and that can lead to big problems.”

Among the top concerns of clients working with a digital agency are expectations not matching what’s outlined in contracts, non-flexible fees for services, and capability gaps like data analysis and reporting.

Salemi, who evolved her career in digital marketing in Cleveland, Boston, and New York City, under the tutelage of Willis, says, “the way Blue Noda surmounts these client obstacles is by being “truth-tellers” and offering customizable programs scaled to proposals that are accurate, detailed and can be justified and explained. We even roll over hours!”
